My adventures with Superman S01E05

Lois steps up on the radio to get to Superman's height, gets into his personal space, and there's a very subtle blush on his face. They're blushing constantly in this show, but this one felt a lot more natural.

Then she handcuffs herself to him, which was an odd thing to do, storytelling wise. Why doesn't he just pluck those off right away? One one hand, the lack of logic bothered me. Though, this show is just... a bit like that, it seems? They're not trying very hard to make everything make sense. Like how Clark is not exactly hiding his secret very well, or how nobody questions why he's basically not getting any work done. If I just rolled with it (let's say that he's new at this Superman thing, and didn't have time to detach her or something) I really enjoyed the following scenes where he's just pulling her along. The tire to the face! XD And when she climbs onto his back.

Then later on, Lois is gesturing and threatening the person that was attacking them, and he just moves his hand along with hers with a o_o deadpan facial expression. Love it!

"Miss Lane, please don't threaten people, it's wrong -_-" His face! I love how... neutral and natural this version Clark is as Superman. And how very non-threatening he is, like Superman should be. And how that line was played basically straight, and not made fun of. So, so lovely.

The bit with Steve and Jimmy made no sense, and this one I'm less willing to swallow because I didn't get cute moments as a result. It's okay that Steve's supposed to be a buffoon, but then he continues to call Jimmy his protege after he finds out he's Flamebird, and it's his videos he's been making fun of?

The General must be Sam Lane, Lois' father. There's no way he's not when he's not ben named yet, and also looks a bit Asian like Lois. Also, very early days general Lane line, to call Superman "it". I'm glad he called off the attack when Superman was trying to save people. Can't have him be properly evil if that's actually Lois' dad.

Then we had the rooftop bit. Loved the hug. Kinda like how Clark can actually get a bit nicked by the fights he's in. Lois jumping off the building to get him to admit his secret is a bit of an overreaction, but, see paragraph two I guess. And as always I'm a huge sucker for seing Clark do super things, while not in costume.

Actually, I love Lois finding out about Clark this early. It creates room for more of a power balance, kind of? Clark gets to accuse Lois a bit here too, argue a bit about his reasoning. He's just trying to protect himself. While usually a revelation way later in the story means that he's lied to her for years.

"I don't know what we were going to be, but that's all over now". Hmm. Guess they have to leave some more drama to resolve.

Also, I realise this is easy to say as a viewer who's had a lot of time to think about this, rather than an actual character who's in a situation like this, but I kinda wish more characters that gets mad at Clark would realise how incredibly huge that secret is. He can't just go ahead and tell everyone. If she previously said that she wanted to expose him, that's completely fair to be defensive about. Even though you shouldn't go into a relationship keeping lies, their relationship was still very, very fresh.

And Jimmy gets kidnapped by bigfoot at the end? I kinda feel like he's a bit useless in this story so far. Looks like next episode will be "save Jimmy in the woods". That's probably where that "hang on" - *flies off with Lois" scene in the trailer belongs.

Other random things I noted:

  • Superman gets slammed into walls a lot.
  • Magic bridge fixing heatvision. Hm. Eeh, I guess.
  • The voice for Clark is growing on me. Has a bit of personality to it.
