The Sandman season 2 part 1

It's finally heeeeeere! I'm so so happy. Sadly we couldn't watch all of part 1 in one go, as we only have the evenings after the little one's bedtime to watch TV now. We got halfway through Brief Lives before I had to go to bed. Will probably come back and edit this later.

Thoughts on the first night:

Loved the scene right at the start of him redoing the castle. I'm a sucker for huge displays of power.

I think the pacing is good, from what I've seen so far. I was worried it would feel super rushed. I'm sure it could have been even better, but for what we got, it's fine. Maybe they could have fleshed out the Nada and Dream relationship a bit more, but not a huge issue. My boyfriend, who very casually liked this show said he liked this as well. That it's focusing on Dream and the family more. He also cackled at him taking the red balloon from the Chaos girl.

Love making Nada the replacement for Thessaly, as the ex he's looking for when he goes on the road trip with Delirium. I saw someone on Reddit suggest they might use Joanna Constantine for this, but no, this worked very well for me.

Also someone on reddit said Dream was very "morose" (I think they said) this season. But he is in the comics too though. I remember basically feeling the dread set in at this point in the comics, because man, it got intense. I wonder how they're gonna handle the ending of the comics in this.

Apparently the Guardian wrote a very negative review of it, but I'm not going to read it until it's all over.

Also my boyfriend said he couldn't quite take Dream seriously in this. Looks too much like a "mopey twink" or whatever he said. I soooort of see what he means, but it's nowhere near an issue for me. He's so damn near perfect as Dream.

Hob! ❤️ So nice to see him. I think that scene went pretty much exactly like in the comics. Dream smiled! Hob knows everything at this point since he knows about the Dreaming. Would love to know how their friendship went between the ending of "The sound of her wings" and this.

Thoughts after finishing part 1 the next day:

The story of Orpheus was well handled. The song in the underworld was so beautiful.

Aaaah yes there's that bleak mood from the comics. It starts when they're in the maze/Destiny's realm. I did not miss it. I really wonder if they're going to stay faithful to the comic's ending in this. It just doesn't make sense to me. I talked a bit about that before here. But basically, I felt like the ending was so unsatisfying after all that character growth. He even grows even more this (half) season. I don't really have huge hopes that they'll change it. But... who knows?

Wish Dream had the t-shirt from the comics on in the final scene rather than a tank top. Dunno why, but it looked a bit odd, took me out of the moment slightly.
